The Godfather Title Sequence Analysis

The opening scene to this all time crime thriller has little to no typography in its titles. The typography used for the main title features a puppet string and handle connected to the lettering. This connotes that the Godfather is the controller of his business and they work at his command. This could also be alternately viewed as the mafia being the hand that controls all crime, and that it is the route of all the crime in its location. The sequence doesn't feature many titles at all just the main title of the movie. This is very old fashioned and and gives the audience little to no information about the storyline. This builds up a lot of tension for the audience as they have no insight to what may happen.
